The History of Libritz Stamps

Roy Hickman started dealing in stamps part-time, at the Saturday Portobello Market and
continued trading there for a few years. Then in 1967 he purchased Libritz Stamps, an existing
business in New Southgate, North London, taking over from Major Sims, who was retiring
from the trade. The name
Libritz was formed from the shop originally being a private lending
Lib
rary and the stamp shop, situated close to the Ritz Cinema. In 1969 he married Mary and opened a second shop, which they also made their home, in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. Mary had previously worked in the city of London in retailing, banking and insurance.

After a few years Mary's brother Douglas, who has also worked in the stamp trade for twenty
five years, came to work at the new shop.

In 1990 the London shop closed due to road development and the Business HQ has been
located in Hemel Hempstead ever since. Our customers range in age from very young to quite
senior, from beginners to very specialised collectors, both locally and world-wide. We are a
family business and look forward to welcoming you as a new customer.

We hope to enjoy a good relationship with you for many years to come. We have a wide and varied stock, so do give us the opportunity to see if we can help with your 'wants' lists and send you a quote.
